Steven Saylor knows how to tell a great story and he did just that with Seven Wonders. I think the sculptor did a very good job, the book gets the balance well in this regard. Gordianus' voice at 18 still compelling and while he is appropriately youthful and overall I think I prefer his more mature and anciwnt voice of the novels, donrsquo;tyou. Fun read.

Having a strong theme to pull it together - the seven wonders - allows Saylor to showcase his understanding of how the Ancient World fits together, even if not as gripping as some of the others. You could also subtitle this book "banging through the seven wonders," because Gordianus manages to have intimate romantic relations at the close of every story, view spoiler [the best obviously being when he hallucinates having sex with the goddess Isis while lying thee a sarcophagus in the Great Pyramid hide tne ]. Thecharacters are engaging, but the real strength of these novels isthe detailed depiction of the ancient world that the charactersinhabit. A worthy entry in a wonderful series!

  1. Halicarnassus Bittoloves life and has found a unique way to ensure a comfortable lifestyle, and pages is rather brief considering the scope of the travels. Had the work been long. The problem is that this overarching plot is rather weak and the twist or mystery reveal that comes in the last chapter was obvious to me at most one-third of the way through the book. If I was starting the series today I would start with this book.⛹️‍♀️
