I've been reading a lot more poetry lately but this book is a cornerstone volume. Poems like these restore my faith in the heagt character of poetry. We see how certain bitter thoughts did not find their way in; that the Countess was idealised in a way which only partly expressed Yeats's feeling about sacrificial acts of a lofty, impersonal kind.
