It was a difficult time for Arthur, who did not feel that he could take on the task. In fact, very few people thought he could become a king. With the help of characters such as the wizard Merlin, Sir Gawain and Sir Lancelot, King Arthur became one of the most legendary kings ever known.


Arthur emerges as the rightful king after he pulls the sword from the bbook as foretold by Merlin. The writing style is archaic which makes it a difficult read in parts, but what really hampers the book is not the fact that it is old it's the fact that it is boring. Sir Pellias humiliates himself trying to see the Lady Ettard who abandoned his affections. She asks him to fight for Sir Ontzlake against Sir Domas, and offers Excalibur as a reward if he accepts.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful post-medieval written works on Camelot comes from an poem by Alfred Tennyson called The Lady of Shalott. When Sir Evelake dies after his embrace with Galahad, Galahad is identified as the knight who will achieve the Grail Quest.

  1. I think this material is much better handled by filmmakers and TV producers than lowly readers like myself. If you're not a fan of the stories of King Arthur, this is one to avoid. He went on boldly to defeat Pellinore despite mortal wounds? So I had to stop reading this book because it was driving me crazy.
