It was the work of William Roscoe , of Liverpool. Roscoe had trained as a lawyer and while practicing that profession, he had married Jane Griffies, the daughter of a local tradesman. They had seven sons and three daughters. William Roscoe opposed slavery and spoke out against it, despite the fact that the economy of Liverpool was heavily dependent upon the slave trade. By , Roscoe had given up the practice of law and by , he was involved with agriculture and farm reclamation.
